MNatSci Natural Sciences (International)
About this course
Natural sciences is a degree for students who find the boundaries between disciplines frustrating rather than reassuring, and who want to bring the methods and insights of more than one science to bear on the most complex problems facing the modern world. The challenges of climate change, pandemic preparedness, sustainable food systems, novel materials and personalised medicine cannot be solved by any single discipline: they require scientists who can cross freely between biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and earth science, and who understand the connective tissue between them. At the University of Leeds, this five-year full-time international programme is specifically designed for students who want to combine an international dimension with a multidisciplinary scientific education. You will build a solid foundation across the physical and life sciences before focusing your studies in an area that reflects your interests and ambitions, whether at the interface of chemistry and biology, physics and earth science, or another combination. A year abroad is built into the five-year programme, giving you the chance to study at a partner institution in another country and to encounter scientific questions and research cultures beyond the UK. Typical entry is around 168 UCAS tariff points. Graduates from natural sciences programmes are well placed for careers in research, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, environmental science, public health, science policy, science communication and the wide range of technical and analytical roles that require broad scientific literacy rather than deep specialisation in a single field. The international experience and breadth of scientific training developed through this programme is particularly valued by global organisations operating across disciplinary and national boundaries. Many graduates also continue to doctoral study in a discipline at the intersection of two or more sciences.
