BA Music Business with Placement
About this course
The music business is an industry that combines creative passion with commercial complexity, encompassing record labels, live events, artist management, publishing, streaming, synchronisation, promotion and an increasingly complex digital ecosystem. Understanding how it works, how revenue is generated and distributed, how artists are developed and how audiences are built and maintained requires both industry knowledge and business acumen. Music business degrees prepare graduates to operate effectively across all of these dimensions. At the University of Gloucestershire, this four-year full-time programme includes a placement embedded in its structure, giving you direct professional experience in the music industry before you complete your degree. You will cover all facets of music business, from running live events and developing and managing artists to conducting sophisticated promotional campaigns and launching music enterprises. The programme combines theoretical understanding of the industry with practical skills and the opportunity to apply them in real contexts. You will study the commercial, legal and creative dimensions of the music business, including artist management, touring and live events, music publishing and copyright, digital distribution and streaming, marketing and promotion, and entrepreneurship. Understanding both the creative instincts that drive the music world and the commercial and legal frameworks that sustain it is what distinguishes successful music business professionals. Graduates go on to careers as artist managers, music publishers, tour managers, promoters, label executives, music supervisors, streaming platform staff, booking agents, marketing professionals and music entrepreneurs. Some build their own businesses or agencies. Others go on to postgraduate study in music business, entertainment law or arts management. The combination of creative industry knowledge, business skills and placement experience makes graduates competitive in a sector where getting started is often the hardest part.
