BA Media and Performance
About this course
Media and Performance is a degree that sits at the intersection of live and recorded creative practice, exploring how performance and media production overlap, interact and transform each other in contemporary creative culture. Performance encompasses acting, physical theatre, comedy and live art, while media production spans radio, television, film, digital content and the craft disciplines of scriptwriting, directing and producing. Together, they reflect the reality of a creative industry in which performers, writers and producers must work fluently across multiple formats and platforms. At the University of Salford, this full-time three-year programme includes a year abroad and places you in a creative environment with strong industry connections. You will explore performance across theatre, comedy, screen acting, radio and motion capture, and develop production skills in filmmaking, scriptwriting, directing, producing and radio production. You will work on video drama projects led by professional directors and engage with industry leaders whose practice reflects the contemporary media landscape. The breadth of creative practice the programme encompasses is designed to develop versatile graduates who can contribute across the range of contexts that modern media and performance careers demand. Media and Performance graduates go on to careers in acting, performance and entertainment, television and film production, radio broadcasting, scriptwriting, directing, producing and content creation. Many work across multiple roles simultaneously, building portfolio careers that combine performance with production work, writing, teaching and other creative activities. The creative industries in the UK are substantial employers, and the professional experience, portfolio and networks built during your studies are central to establishing your career within them. Many graduates also move into arts education, community arts, drama facilitation and the broader creative and cultural economy.
