About this course
Media and communications is the study of how information, culture, and meaning are produced, distributed, and consumed across media systems, from newspapers and television through to digital platforms and social media. It asks both practical questions about how media content is made and critical questions about how media shapes and is shaped by society, politics, culture, and power. Understanding the media industry means understanding the contemporary world, and this degree provides both the theoretical frameworks to do so and the practical skills to work within it. At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time programme offers an in-depth understanding of how the industry shapes today's world alongside expert training in media production. You will develop critical and analytical skills through the study of media theory, audience research, and the political economy of media, while also building practical production competencies across writing, audio-visual production, digital content, and communication design. The programme includes an integrated foundation year, ensuring students from a range of backgrounds can develop the academic and practical foundations needed for degree-level study.
