BA Marketing
About this course
Marketing is the discipline that connects organisations to the people they serve, asking how you identify what customers need, how you communicate value, how you build brands that endure, and how you make decisions in an environment where consumer behaviour is constantly changing and the tools available for reaching audiences are multiplying. It is both analytically demanding, drawing on data, research, and behavioural science, and creatively driven, requiring the ability to generate ideas and communicate them compellingly across different media. At York St John University, this four-year full-time programme, which includes a foundation year, develops your core understanding of the marketing function within organisations and the role of business in society. You will study how organisations develop sustainable marketing strategies, manage risk and innovation, and serve their customers while contributing to broader social wellbeing. The programme encourages you to think critically about marketing's social and ethical dimensions, not just its commercial ones, which is increasingly relevant as organisations face pressure to demonstrate genuine social responsibility alongside commercial performance. The degree includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you professional and international experience that significantly strengthens your graduate credentials. Marketing graduates are sought across a wide range of organisations and sectors. Digital marketing, brand management, market research, advertising, public relations, content creation, e-commerce, social media management, and marketing strategy are all areas where marketing graduates work. Large companies, agencies, the public sector, charities, and start-ups all have marketing functions, and the analytical and creative skills the degree develops are applicable across all of them. Postgraduate study in marketing, digital marketing, or business provides further options for those who wish to deepen their expertise or specialise in a particular area of the discipline.
