BA Marketing
About this course
Marketing is the business discipline that connects organisations with the people they want to reach. At its best it goes well beyond advertising: it involves understanding what customers and audiences actually need, shaping products and services to meet those needs, and communicating in ways that build lasting relationships rather than simply generating transactions. Good marketing requires you to see the big picture, identify opportunities in the landscape, anticipate the threats that could undermine a brand, and make creative and strategic decisions based on evidence. At Manchester Metropolitan University this three-year full-time programme develops your understanding of marketing as a function with the power to shape sales, customer service, product development, and brand loyalty. You will study consumer behaviour, digital marketing, brand management, marketing strategy, market research, and communications, developing both the analytical and creative dimensions of the discipline. The programme is designed to be practical and industry-connected, preparing you not just to understand marketing theory but to apply it in the contexts where professional marketers actually work. A sandwich year gives you the opportunity to spend a full year working in a professional marketing role, gaining the experience and industry understanding that gives graduates a significant advantage in the job market. Work placements are also integrated throughout the programme, ensuring that professional engagement is not confined to a single block but runs as a thread across your studies. Graduates of marketing programmes move into roles in digital marketing, brand management, market research, content and social media, marketing agency work, product management, and advertising. Some go on to postgraduate study in marketing, business, or communications, or pursue professional qualifications from bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing. The skills developed, including analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, and audience understanding, are valuable across a wide range of industries.
