BA Marketing (including Foundation Year)
About this course
Marketing is the discipline that connects organisations with the people they exist to serve. At its most rigorous it combines psychology, data analysis, strategic thinking, and creative communication to understand what customers need, how to reach them, and how to build relationships that create lasting value for both sides. Far from being simply about advertising, marketing encompasses market research, product development, pricing strategy, brand management, digital channels, content creation, and the measurement of commercial outcomes. It is a discipline in continuous evolution, driven by changes in technology, consumer behaviour, and the competitive landscape. At the University of Chester you will study this four-year full-time programme, which includes a foundation year to provide a strong academic grounding before the main degree, and a year abroad built into the later stages of the course. The year abroad gives you first-hand experience of how marketing operates in a different national context, developing the cross-cultural awareness that is increasingly valuable in international careers. Across the full programme you will study consumer behaviour, marketing communications, digital marketing, brand strategy, research methods, and the ethical dimensions of marketing practice. You will work on projects that develop your ability to move from analysis and insight to creative strategy and execution. The typical entry tariff is 104 points. Marketing graduates work across every sector of the economy, in roles including brand management, digital marketing, market research, advertising, communications, content creation, product management, and social media strategy. The combination of analytical and creative skills makes marketers employable in commercial businesses, charities, public sector organisations, and agencies of all kinds. The year abroad is a particular advantage in internationally focused organisations. Postgraduate study in marketing, consumer psychology, business administration, or data analytics is a natural step for those who want to specialise or take on leadership roles.
