MA Management with Religion in Society
About this course
Management and religion in society is an unusual but intellectually coherent combination. Management is a discipline concerned with how organisations are built, led, and sustained, and with the economic, strategic, and human dimensions of organisational life. Religion in society examines how religious beliefs, institutions, and practices shape individual behaviour, social norms, political systems, and cultural life, from the historical development of world religions to their contemporary role in public and private spheres. Together, the two disciplines offer a distinctive perspective on how values, institutions, and authority operate in the world. At the University of St Andrews, this four-year, full-time programme provides a thorough grounding in management, including marketing, organisational behaviour, and financial analysis, alongside a substantive engagement with the study of religion in its social, cultural, and historical dimensions. The management strand equips you with practical and analytical tools for understanding how organisations function and how they respond to challenges, while the religion in society strand develops your capacity to think critically about belief, practice, and the relationship between the sacred and the secular. The programme includes a year abroad, enriching your academic and personal development. A typical entry tariff of 232 points reflects the very high academic standard expected for entry to St Andrews. Graduates with this combination are well placed for careers in social enterprise and ethical business, international non-governmental organisations, public policy, diplomatic and governmental services, education, journalism, and any field that requires understanding how values and institutional culture shape organisational and social life. The combination of management expertise and humanistic depth is increasingly valued in leadership roles that require navigating diversity, social responsibility, and complex stakeholder relationships. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in management, theology, social science, or international relations.
