LLB Law with German Law
About this course
Law with German Law at University College London is one of the most intellectually demanding and professionally rewarding legal degrees available in the UK. It gives you a deep education in English common law alongside systematic study of the German civil law system, one of the most influential legal traditions in the world, whose principles have shaped the legal systems of many countries across Europe, Asia and beyond. The ability to work across two distinct legal systems, with genuine competence in both, is exceptionally valuable in an international legal career. This four-year full-time programme develops your knowledge of the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, equity and the EU legal framework, alongside the foundational areas of German private law, constitutional law and legal method. You will study German to the level required for legal work, engaging with legislation, case law and academic writing in German, and you will develop the comparative perspective that comes from understanding how two sophisticated legal systems have reached different and sometimes similar solutions to common legal problems. UCL's law faculty is one of the most internationally respected in the world, and the degree benefits from that standing. Graduates pursue careers in the most prestigious law firms, including many magic circle and international firms with significant German-speaking operations, as well as in in-house legal roles at multinational companies, in international arbitration, in European institutions and in academia. The combination of English and German law qualifications opens doors in both jurisdictions, and many graduates qualify in both England and Wales and Germany. This degree is a natural choice for those who aspire to an international legal career at the highest level.
