LLB Law with Criminology with a Foundation Year
About this course
Law with Criminology is a combination that makes deep intellectual sense. Law provides the formal framework of rules, institutions, and procedures through which society responds to crime and dispute; criminology examines why crime occurs, who commits it, who is most harmed by it, and how the criminal justice system itself shapes behaviour and outcomes. Taken together, the two disciplines give you both the technical legal knowledge and the critical social science perspective that a sophisticated understanding of crime and justice requires. This four-year full-time programme at Swansea University brings together the study of law in England and Wales with an in-depth exploration of crime, criminal justice, and social responses to offending. You will develop your understanding of core legal areas including contract, tort, public law, criminal law, and the law of evidence, alongside criminological study of theories of crime, penology, policing, and the experiences of victims and offenders within the justice system. The degree is four years in duration, which reflects the depth and breadth of material covered across both disciplines. The typical entry tariff of 120 UCAS points makes the programme accessible while reflecting the academic commitment the combination demands. Graduates with a law and criminology degree are well positioned for careers across the legal and criminal justice sectors. Those who wish to qualify as solicitors or barristers can proceed to the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or the Bar Practice Course using this as their academic foundation. Others move into roles in the probation service, youth justice, victim support, social work, the police service, or community safety, where the combination of legal knowledge and criminological understanding is particularly valuable. Careers in policy, research, journalism, and the charity sector are also common. Postgraduate study in law, criminology, or social policy is an option for those who wish to deepen their expertise.
