Law and criminology are disciplines that illuminate each other in important ways. Law provides the formal framework within which wrongdoing is defined and responded to, developing the analytical skills to work with legal rules, principles and institutions. Those seeking to qualify as solicitors or barristers will need to complete further professional training, and this degree provides the academic foundation for those routes. Others move directly into the police, probation, prison service, youth justice, victim support, social work and community safety roles, where understanding the relationship between law and criminological realities is directly useful.
