About this course

Law with artificial intelligence is a degree that addresses one of the most significant and fast-moving areas of intersection between legal practice and technology. Artificial intelligence is already reshaping how legal research is conducted, how contracts are drafted and reviewed, how disputes are resolved and how regulatory compliance is monitored. Understanding AI at a level beyond superficial familiarity is increasingly recognised as an important skill for lawyers, whether they are advising clients on the legal implications of AI systems, working in technology law, or managing their own use of AI-powered legal tools. At Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, this four-year full-time LLB degree gives you a thorough grounding in the core areas of Scots and UK law, covering contract, delict, constitutional law, criminal law, commercial law and the other foundations of legal knowledge and analytical skill, while integrating substantial teaching on artificial intelligence, its technical basis, its applications in legal contexts, and the emerging legal and regulatory questions it raises. You will develop an understanding of how AI systems work at a practical level, alongside the legal analysis skills needed to advise on the responsibilities, liabilities and governance challenges that AI deployment creates. A year abroad is built into the programme. Typical entry is around 152 UCAS tariff points. Graduates are well positioned for careers in legal practice, in-house legal roles in technology companies, legal technology businesses, regulatory agencies and policy bodies concerned with the governance of AI and data. The combination of legal qualification and genuine AI literacy is rare and increasingly valued as organisations seek lawyers who can navigate the space between technology and law with credibility. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in law, technology law or AI ethics, or pursue professional qualifications in Scotland or England and Wales.
