LLB Law
About this course
Law is the framework within which social conflicts are resolved, rights are protected and obligations are enforced. Studying it at undergraduate level is both a rigorous intellectual education in how legal systems are structured and reasoned about, and a vocational preparation for entry into one of the most demanding and consequential professions. A law degree develops close reading, careful argument, the ability to apply abstract principles to concrete facts, and the communication skills needed to present reasoned positions persuasively, qualities that are valued far beyond the legal profession itself. At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time LLB is designed with career success explicitly in mind. Modules reflect the current and future needs of employers and the legal profession, including attention to the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on legal practice, which is reshaping how legal work is done at every level. You will develop essential professional skills alongside legal doctrine, and the programme offers the opportunity to shadow lawyers and judges, giving you insight into practice from people working in it. Support for the local community through legal advice schemes provides a further dimension of applied experience. A year abroad extends your perspective and adds an international dimension to your legal formation. Law graduates who pursue legal careers typically progress through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or Bar Training Course to qualify as solicitors or barristers in England and Wales, though the qualifying routes have changed in recent years and continuing engagement with professional body guidance is advisable. Beyond the legal profession itself, law graduates are sought after in roles in finance, compliance, the civil service, human resources, journalism, business and the third sector, where the analytical, research and communication skills a law degree builds translate directly into professional effectiveness. Postgraduate study in law, including specialist LLMs in areas such as commercial law, human rights or technology law, is also a well-established route.
