LLB Law
About this course
Law is one of the most intellectually demanding disciplines you can study at degree level, requiring you to engage with the rules that govern society, the institutions that interpret and apply them, and the deeper philosophical questions about justice, rights and authority that underlie them. A qualifying law degree in England and Wales covers the foundational subjects of the legal system: contract, tort, criminal law, public law, land law, equity and trusts, and European and international dimensions of law, demanding precision with language and argument, critical reading of cases and statutes, and the ability to apply abstract principles to novel factual situations. At the University of Chichester this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which provides academic preparation for students who need to build the skills required for degree-level legal study. The foundation year welcomes students from a range of educational backgrounds and is designed to develop the analytical and writing skills that law demands. From the foundation you progress into the full law degree, which develops your knowledge and understanding of legal frameworks with a view to preparing you for a career as a barrister or solicitor, or for one of the many other careers that a law degree supports. The typical entry tariff for this programme is around 104 UCAS points, reflecting the inclusive character of the foundation entry route. Law graduates from Chichester are well placed to pursue postgraduate professional training routes for solicitors or barristers, or to enter the many careers that value the analytical and communication skills a law degree develops. Finance, compliance, human resources, policy, public administration, the civil service, journalism and management consulting are all well-established destinations for law graduates who do not follow the traditional legal practice route. Postgraduate study in specialist legal areas, graduate law conversion and legal practice courses are all options open to you after the degree.
