About this course

Law underpins society in ways that are both visible and invisible. Every contract, every employment relationship, every property transaction, every interaction with public institutions, and every criminal prosecution is shaped by legal rules and the institutions that interpret and enforce them. Studying law develops your ability to read with unusual care, to construct and evaluate arguments, and to understand how legal frameworks serve, constrain, and sometimes fail the people who live within them. At Manchester Metropolitan University this three-year full-time degree gives you a unique insight into everything from the economy to the criminal justice system, building a wide range of skills that will serve you throughout your career. You will study core legal areas including contract, tort, criminal law, public law, land law, and equity, developing both the doctrinal knowledge and the professional skills that a grounding in law requires. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to work in a legal or professional environment for an extended period before your final year, and work placement activity is embedded throughout the degree. MMU's strong links with the legal profession in Manchester and beyond create opportunities for engagement with practitioners that enrich your academic study. Graduates from this programme have a wide range of options. Those wishing to qualify as solicitors can proceed to the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, and those aiming for the Bar can take the Bar Practice Course, with this qualifying law degree as the academic foundation. Many graduates move directly into paralegal, legal executive, or compliance roles. Beyond the law, graduates enter careers in finance, human resources, public sector management, consultancy, journalism, policy, and many other fields where analytical rigour and legal awareness are assets. Postgraduate study in law or a related specialist area is a natural continuation for those who wish to deepen their expertise.
