About this course

Law with a corporate law focus equips you with the foundational principles of the English and Welsh legal system alongside specialist knowledge of the legal frameworks that govern business, commerce and corporate activity. Corporate law encompasses company formation, governance, directors' duties, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, insolvency and the regulatory environment within which commercial organisations operate. It is central to the practice of any major law firm and to the in-house legal teams of large organisations. At the University of Gloucestershire the LLB Law degree explores both the theoretical underpinning and the practical application of law in its corporate context. You will study the core areas of English law including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional law, equity and property, developing the legal knowledge, skills and analytical capabilities that prospective lawyers need. The corporate law specialism adds depth in the areas most relevant to business law practice and commercial legal careers. The programme runs over three years full time. Law graduates are eligible to proceed towards professional qualification as solicitors through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or as barristers through the Bar Professional Training Course. The corporate law emphasis makes this programme particularly well suited to those intending to work in commercial practice, including commercial litigation, corporate transactions, finance law and company law. The analytical skills and legal knowledge the degree develops are also valued in a wide range of careers in finance, compliance, business consultancy, the civil service and management. Postgraduate study in commercial law, corporate law or legal practice provides further routes for those seeking specialist expertise.
