LLB Law And Criminology
About this course
Law and criminology together form a powerful lens through which to understand how societies define, enforce, and contest the boundaries of acceptable behaviour. The rule of law is the cornerstone of any just and fair society, and to be administered correctly it requires skilled and knowledgeable legal professionals who also understand why crime happens in the first place. This combined degree at the University of Lincoln allows you to move between the formal structures of the legal system and the broader social, psychological, and political forces that shape criminal behaviour. You will study the foundations of legal reasoning alongside theories of crime, deviance, and justice. Legal modules examine contract, tort, criminal law, and constitutional principles, developing your ability to analyse cases, interpret statutes, and construct coherent arguments. Criminology strands introduce you to sociological and psychological perspectives on offending, the operation of the criminal justice system, policing, and penal policy. Together, these disciplines sharpen your critical thinking, research skills, and capacity to evaluate evidence from multiple angles. The programme is studied part-time, giving you flexibility around other commitments, and includes a sandwich year and work placement, so you gain direct professional experience within the legal or criminal justice sectors before you graduate. Optional time abroad adds an international dimension to your understanding of comparative legal systems and global crime trends. Graduates of law and criminology are well placed for careers in solicitor and barrister training, the Crown Prosecution Service, probation, the police service, prison service, social work, and policy roles in government or third-sector organisations. Many also progress to postgraduate study in law, criminology, or related fields such as forensic psychology and public policy.
