BA Journalism
About this course
Journalism is the practice of gathering, verifying, and communicating information about the world in ways that serve the public interest. At its best, it holds power to account, informs democratic participation, and tells the stories that help communities understand themselves and the world around them. The craft has been transformed by digital media, and today's journalists work across video, audio, social media, and long-form writing in addition to the traditional print and broadcast formats, requiring a versatile skill set alongside a clear ethical and professional foundation. At Nottingham Trent University this three-year full-time programme develops your journalistic curiosity and storytelling skills in a practical, industry-informed environment. You will develop skills across reporting, writing, interviewing, digital production, and multimedia storytelling, building the professional toolkit that contemporary journalism demands. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, giving you the professional experience in newsrooms, broadcasters, digital publications, or other media organisations that is essential for launching a journalism career. NTU's journalism facilities and industry connections provide a strong platform for developing professional practice alongside academic study. Journalism graduates work in newspapers, magazines, broadcast media, digital news organisations, podcasting, corporate communications, content marketing, and public affairs. The skills developed through journalism, including the ability to find, verify, and communicate information clearly and quickly, are transferable across a wide range of roles in any sector that values well-informed, accurate communication. Many graduates also go on to specialist journalism roles in areas such as investigative reporting, data journalism, or broadcast documentary. Some pursue postgraduate study in journalism to develop specialist skills or to prepare for careers in broadcast or digital journalism.
