MA International Business
About this course
International business is the study of commerce across national boundaries, a discipline that addresses the opportunities and complexities that arise when firms operate in multiple markets simultaneously. It draws on economics, management, finance, strategy and cultural studies to examine how multinational enterprises function, how global supply chains are organised, how trade and investment are shaped by political and regulatory environments, and how managers lead and make decisions in contexts where cultural, legal and institutional norms differ significantly from those they know at home. At the University of Aberdeen the four-year MA in international business is designed to develop future leaders in global commerce, providing a broad understanding of international business operations alongside the economic, political and social context in which those operations take place. You will study across four years of full-time study, including a year abroad that gives you direct experience of a different commercial and cultural environment. The programme develops your knowledge of international strategy, global marketing, cross-cultural management and international finance, equipping you to think and operate effectively across borders. Graduates in international business enter careers across a wide range of sectors, including consulting, finance, marketing, trade, logistics, corporate development and public policy. Major international companies, financial institutions, public sector organisations with global remits and development organisations all recruit international business graduates. The combination of commercial understanding and international perspective is particularly valued in roles that require managing relationships, projects or operations across different national contexts. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in international business, management, finance, economics or MBA programmes, particularly after gaining professional experience.
