About this course

International business and international relations together examine the world through two complementary lenses: one economic and managerial, the other political and diplomatic. International business looks at how organisations operate across borders, navigating different legal systems, currencies, cultures, and competitive environments. International relations investigates the forces that shape relations between states and other global actors, including trade, security, diplomacy, institutions, and ideology. The combination produces graduates who understand both the commercial logic of globalisation and the political context that makes it possible and sometimes fragile. At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country. This experience enriches both the international business and the international relations dimensions of your degree, immersing you in a different social, political, and economic environment and developing the cross-cultural fluency that employers in both sectors prize. You will study global strategy, international finance, cross-cultural management, trade policy, international law, foreign policy analysis, theories of international order, and the politics of global governance. The programme develops your analytical and communication skills, preparing you to engage with complex problems that span disciplinary boundaries and operate across national contexts. Graduates from this joint degree programme go on to work in international organisations, multinational companies, government and diplomatic services, trade bodies, NGOs, consultancy, and financial services. Many continue to postgraduate study in international business, international relations, law, or public policy. The combination of commercial awareness and geopolitical understanding produced by this degree is valued wherever organisations need people who can think globally.
