BA Human Resource Management with Placement
About this course
Human resource management is the organisational discipline concerned with how people are recruited, developed, motivated, managed, and retained within organisations. It sits at the centre of business performance: getting the best from people requires both technical knowledge of employment law and HR systems and a sophisticated understanding of human behaviour, communication, leadership, and organisational culture. In an era when talent is widely recognised as a primary source of competitive advantage, HR professionals play a strategic role rather than simply an administrative one. At Salford this four-year full-time programme develops your understanding of both the strategic and operational dimensions of people management. You will study employment law and its practical implications, talent management and workforce planning, organisational behaviour, learning and development, reward management, and the ethical dimensions of managing people. Communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence are developed as explicit skills throughout the degree, reflecting the fact that HR professionals need to engage effectively with people at every level of an organisation, often during difficult moments such as disciplinary proceedings, redundancy, or conflict resolution. Work placement experience is embedded in the programme, giving you structured professional experience before you graduate. This practical dimension is significant: HR is a field where employers value evidence of real-world competence alongside academic knowledge, and the placement allows you to build the professional portfolio and contacts that support your transition into work. Graduates move into roles in HR management, talent acquisition and recruitment, learning and development, employee relations, organisational development, and HR consultancy. The degree also provides a strong platform for professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, which is the professional body for HR in the UK, and for postgraduate study in HR or organisational behaviour.
