BA Human Resource Management
About this course
Human resource management is the professional discipline concerned with how organisations recruit, develop, motivate, and retain their people, and with creating the conditions in which individuals and teams can perform at their best. It sits at the heart of organisational life, spanning areas such as recruitment and selection, learning and development, performance management, employee relations, reward strategy, and the management of conflict at work. As organisations face increasing pressure from technological change, demographic shifts, and evolving employee expectations, effective HR practice is more important than it has ever been. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time degree develops your understanding of HRM in the context of organisations operating in complex and changing environments. You will study how HR functions contribute to organisational strategy alongside the specific practices of managing people through the employment lifecycle, from attraction and recruitment through to development, engagement, and offboarding. A year abroad is built into the programme, giving you an international dimension to your understanding of how people management practices differ across cultures and regulatory environments. Strathclyde Business School is a well-regarded international institution, and the degree benefits from its research and professional connections. Graduates in human resource management go on to careers across a wide range of organisations. HR officer, HR business partner, learning and development manager, reward analyst, and organisational development consultant are among the roles that graduates progress into. The CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) is the professional body for HR, and a degree of this kind provides the academic foundation for professional membership. Many graduates work in the private sector, but HR roles exist across the public sector, in charities, and in international organisations. Postgraduate study in HRM, organisational behaviour, or business is a natural next step for those who want to develop specialist expertise. The typical entry tariff is 216 points.
