About this course

Health and Wellbeing and Human Biology is a combination that addresses questions about the human body and the broader conditions that support or undermine health, both from a biological and from a social and environmental perspective. Human biology gives you the scientific grounding to understand how the body works, how it develops and how disease arises at the cellular and physiological level. Health and wellbeing brings a wider lens, examining the social, environmental, behavioural and policy determinants of health and illness, and developing your understanding of how communities and systems can be shaped to promote better outcomes for all. At Liverpool Hope University this three-year full-time degree is built on the recognition that effective health promotion requires understanding both the biology of the body and the root causes of ill health in people's lives and environments. You will develop scientific knowledge alongside the practical and analytical skills needed to work in health promotion, public health and wellbeing roles. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you significant opportunity to develop professional and international experience alongside your academic studies. Graduates from Health and Wellbeing and Human Biology degrees are well positioned for careers in public health, health promotion, community health, health education and wellbeing programme delivery. Many find roles in NHS trusts, local authorities, public health agencies, schools, workplaces and voluntary sector organisations. The combination of biological understanding and health promotion knowledge is also valued in medical laboratory science, health research and pharmaceutical or health technology companies. For those wishing to continue their studies, the degree provides preparation for postgraduate work in public health, health promotion, epidemiology, biomedical science or health policy.
