BA Graphic And Media Design
About this course
Graphic and media design occupies the productive space where visual communication and contemporary media converge. Graphic design is concerned with the creation of visual solutions to communication problems, working with typography, image, layout, and colour to produce work that is not only visually effective but meaningful and appropriately suited to its context and audience. Media design extends that practice into digital and screen-based environments, addressing the design of interactive experiences, moving image, and the communication systems that operate across digital platforms. This three-year, full-time programme at the University of the Arts, London gives you access to one of the world's leading creative education environments, with exceptional facilities, a community of students and staff at the forefront of contemporary practice, and industry connections that are unmatched in the UK creative sector. You will develop your visual thinking, design craft, and critical understanding of how design operates in cultural and commercial contexts, working across print and digital media. The course includes a placement year, which gives you sustained professional experience within a design or media organisation and allows you to develop your professional identity and network before graduation. Graduates work across graphic design, brand identity, digital design, motion graphics, art direction, editorial design, packaging, and user experience design. The UAL context and the placement experience mean that graduates are well connected within the creative industries and well prepared for the competitive entry into professional practice that the field requires. Many graduates move into senior design roles, creative direction, and founding their own studios as their careers develop. Further study in graphic design, typography, or visual communication at postgraduate level is an option for those who wish to develop specialist expertise or pursue academic work.
