BSc Geography with Study Abroad in a Modern Language
About this course
Geography is the discipline that examines the relationship between people and place, between human societies and the physical environments they inhabit and transform. It brings together physical geography, which studies landforms, climate, hydrology, and ecosystems, with human geography, which examines cities, economies, migration, political power, and social inequality, developing a holistic perspective on the world that neither science alone nor social science alone can provide. The ability to think across that boundary, connecting environmental processes to social and economic dynamics, is one of the most distinctive intellectual contributions geography makes. At the University of Bristol, this four-year programme adds the dimension of study abroad in a modern language, giving you the opportunity to spend your third year studying geography and other subjects at a partner university, conducted in the language of your host country. A foundation year is available for students who would benefit from additional preparation. This international study element is genuinely embedded in the degree rather than bolted on: you develop your language skills throughout the programme and use them in a real academic context during the third year. The typical entry tariff is 168 UCAS points for direct degree entry. Geography graduates are among the most employable in the social and physical sciences, and the addition of a modern language and an international study year makes this degree particularly attractive to employers with international operations or interests. Environmental consultancy, urban planning, international development, civil service, teaching, climate science, conservation, and research are all common career paths. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in geography, environmental science, planning, or international development.
