BSc Geography (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Geography is the discipline that connects the natural world and the human world, examining how physical environments work, how people interact with one another and with the landscapes they inhabit, and how those landscapes evolve over time under both natural and human influence. It is one of the most integrative of academic disciplines, drawing on techniques and perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to address questions that no single discipline can answer alone. This four-year full-time degree at Liverpool Hope University includes a foundation year, a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and embedded work placement experience. You will develop a dynamic and integrated understanding of both physical and human geography, engaging with topics from geomorphology, climatology, and environmental management through to urban development, migration, and global economic inequalities. The programme develops skills in fieldwork, data analysis, research design, and the communication of geographical findings, preparing you to work across the broad range of contexts in which geographers practise. The foundation year builds your academic skills and knowledge before the main degree, while the sandwich year, year abroad, and work placement experience give you substantial professional and international exposure alongside your academic formation. A typical entry tariff of 104 UCAS points reflects an inclusive admissions approach. Graduates from geography programmes move into careers in environmental consultancy, local government and planning, international development, conservation, climate science, geographical information systems, teaching, the voluntary sector, and business. Many continue to postgraduate study in geography, environmental management, urban planning, or development studies.
