BSc Geography
About this course
Geography is an exceptionally broad discipline that bridges the natural and social sciences, studying the relationships between people and the physical world at scales from the local to the global. Physical geography examines the processes that shape landscapes, climates, and ecosystems, while human geography investigates how societies, economies, and cultures are organised in space and how they interact with the natural world. The discipline's dual nature gives geographers a distinctive ability to engage with some of the most complex and important problems facing humanity, from climate change and environmental degradation to urbanisation, inequality, and migration. At Liverpool Hope University, this full-time, three-year programme takes a dynamic and integrated approach to both physical and human processes, covering environmental conservation and management alongside the social dimensions of geographic inquiry. You will be able to focus on areas ranging from physical and environmental geography to human geography, developing a broad and enriched understanding of the planet. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional and international experience that significantly broadens your perspective and strengthens your graduate profile. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points. Geography graduates are among the most adaptable of any discipline. Environmental consultancy, urban and regional planning, local and national government, international development, sustainability and climate roles, GIS and spatial data analysis, transport planning, education, journalism, and research are all common career paths. The combination of physical and social science skills that a broad geography degree develops is particularly useful in fields where environmental and human dimensions intersect, which includes most of the most significant challenges organisations face. Postgraduate study in physical geography, human geography, urban planning, environmental management, or development studies provides natural routes for those who want to go further.
