BA Geography and Religion Theology & Spirituality
About this course
Geography and religion, theology and spirituality is a combination that might seem unexpected at first glance but proves deeply productive on closer examination. Geography is a discipline that spans the natural and social sciences, concerned with how physical processes shape landscapes and environments and how human societies organise themselves in space, respond to environmental change, and interact across different regions of the world. Religion, theology and spirituality addresses one of the most universal dimensions of human experience, examining the beliefs, practices, ethics, and histories of faith traditions from Christianity and Islam to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism, as well as the spiritual identities that sit alongside or beyond organised religion. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme brings both disciplines together in a city that provides a rich context for both, with its diverse faith communities, its history shaped by migration and religious plurality, and its vibrant cultural scene. You will develop geographical knowledge and analytical skills alongside theological and religious literacy, examining questions about how place and faith interact, how religious communities relate to environmental change, and how different traditions have understood their relationship to the natural world. A sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all built into the programme, giving you substantial professional and international experience. The typical entry tariff of 104 points reflects the broad and accessible character of the programme. You will develop research skills, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with cultural and environmental diversity in ways that are increasingly valued by employers in a wide range of sectors. Graduates pursue careers in geography, environmental management, education, interfaith work, the voluntary sector, heritage, community development, and international development. Postgraduate study in geography, theology, development studies, or education is a natural continuation.
