BSc Food Business Management and Marketing
About this course
Food business management and marketing is a discipline shaped by the reality that food is simultaneously one of the most fundamental human needs and one of the world's most complex and competitive commercial sectors. Managing and marketing food businesses requires not only understanding of supply chains, consumer behaviour and commercial strategy but also knowledge of sustainability, regulation, food safety and the global forces that shape what we eat and how food reaches us. At Newcastle University, this three-year full-time degree includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, providing extensive practical and international experience alongside a rigorous academic foundation in food business management and marketing. You will study the principles of management, economics, marketing and finance as they apply to the food sector, developing the analytical and strategic tools needed to understand and run food businesses at different scales and in different market contexts. Sustainability is woven through the curriculum, reflecting the growing importance of environmental and ethical considerations in food production and retail. Newcastle's location in the North East, with strong agricultural and food industry connections, gives the programme practical relevance, and the placement opportunities are typically in food companies, food retailers, food marketing agencies or related organisations. A typical tariff of around 120 points is expected. Graduates work in food manufacturing, food retail, food marketing agencies, food service companies, agribusiness, export and trade organisations, and public sector food policy. The combination of business skills and food sector knowledge is valued across a wide range of employers, and many graduates go on to postgraduate study in food business, marketing or supply chain management, or to professional qualifications in marketing or management.
