About this course

Fine art is a practice-based discipline concerned with the development of a personal artistic voice and the rigorous cultivation of creative and critical skills. It encompasses drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video, installation, and digital and time-based media, asking not simply how to produce work but why, for whom, and to what end. Studying fine art develops the imagination, critical intelligence, and professional resilience needed to sustain an artistic practice in an ever-changing world. At Sheffield Hallam University this part-time programme includes a foundation year for those who benefit from additional creative and academic preparation before entering the main degree, as well as a sandwich placement year and a work placement component, giving you structured professional experience during your studies. Studying part-time allows you to pursue your practice at a pace that accommodates other commitments, whether those are professional, family-based, or creative.
