MA Finance and Real Estate
About this course
Finance and real estate is a combination that addresses two of the most significant sectors in any economy. Finance provides the theoretical and analytical tools for understanding investment, valuation, risk, and the behaviour of capital markets. Real estate brings those tools to bear on one of the largest and most complex asset classes in the world, examining how property markets work, how real estate is valued and financed, how development and investment decisions are made, and how the property sector interacts with the broader economy. For graduates who want to work in international property, investment, or the financial services that support these sectors, this combination is particularly coherent. At Aberdeen this four-year full-time programme combines strong business and financial skills with in-depth study of real estate markets from the perspectives of economics, investment, and business. You will study financial theory, corporate finance, and investment analysis alongside the specific economics and practice of real estate markets, learning how to value property, understand market dynamics, and assess the risks and returns associated with real estate investment. The programme includes a year abroad, providing the opportunity to study in an international partner institution and gain perspective on how real estate and financial markets operate in different national contexts. The programme carries professional accreditation relevant to the real estate sector. Graduates are well placed for careers in real estate investment, property fund management, commercial property surveying, development finance, real estate consultancy, and roles in the financial institutions that finance property transactions. Many pursue professional qualifications through bodies such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Postgraduate study in real estate finance or property management is also a route for those who wish to specialise further.
