MA Finance and French
About this course
Finance and French brings together two fields that are of complementary importance in the global economy. Finance provides a rigorous understanding of how financial resources are allocated, how risk is assessed and managed, and how investment and funding decisions are made in markets that are increasingly international in scope. French, as one of the world's major languages of commerce, diplomacy and culture, gives you the linguistic and cultural competence to operate in Francophone markets and within the many international organisations where French is a working language. This five-year programme at the University of Aberdeen combines both. You will develop a strong grounding in the principles of finance and wider business skills alongside high-level proficiency in French language and an understanding of French and Francophone culture, society and history. The combination positions you as a graduate who can work across the financial and cultural dimensions of international business and who has the linguistic flexibility to operate in European and global markets where French is significant. The five-year structure allows both strands of the degree to be developed to a genuine level of depth and sophistication. Finance and French graduates are sought after by employers across financial services, international business, the European institutions and organisations, and any sector where the combination of financial expertise and French language skill creates distinctive value. Investment banking, corporate finance, asset management, financial consultancy, international trade finance and roles in European financial regulation are all well-established career directions. Some graduates move into teaching, journalism or the cultural and diplomatic sectors where French and financial knowledge overlap. Postgraduate study in finance, economics, international business or French studies is a natural further step for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
