BA Finance and Business Law
About this course
Finance and business law is a combination that reflects the inseparability of financial decision-making and the legal frameworks that govern it. Finance examines how capital is raised, invested, and managed, how risk is measured and priced, and how the financial markets through which these activities occur are structured and regulated. Business law provides the contractual, regulatory, and institutional context in which financial activity takes place, covering company law, securities regulation, contract, and the legal structures through which businesses are organised and financed. Together they give you an integrated understanding of how commercial and financial life operates in practice. At Strathclyde, this four-year full-time programme covers the principles of investment and value, business finance and decision-making, and the analysis of securities such as bonds and shares, alongside the business law curriculum. You will develop both quantitative analytical skills in finance and the legal reasoning capacity that business law requires, building a dual competency that is particularly valuable in financial services, corporate practice, and regulatory roles. The programme includes a year abroad, broadening your academic and professional experience. The typical entry tariff is 216 points. Graduates of finance and business law programmes are well placed for careers in investment banking, corporate finance, financial regulation, asset management, commercial law, compliance, and risk management. The combination of financial and legal expertise is highly valued in roles that sit at the intersection of the two disciplines, including fund management, mergers and acquisitions, and financial services regulation. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in finance, law, or business, or pursue professional qualifications in both the financial and legal sectors simultaneously.
