Filmmaking and creative technologies is a discipline at the frontier of how stories are told and experiences are created. Contemporary filmmakers are not confined to a single screen: the content they produce reaches audiences through cinemas, streaming platforms, social media, live events, theatrical productions, and emerging forms that are still being defined. The most versatile practitioners are those who understand both the craft of storytelling and the capabilities of the technologies through which it is realised, from traditional cinematography and editing to virtual reality, live streaming, and interactive media. At the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, which has a distinctive history of educating creative practitioners in close connection with the performing arts industry, this three-year full-time programme develops exactly that combination. The course is highly practical, placing you in production environments from early in the degree, developing your skills in directing, cinematography, sound design, editing, production management, and the use of emerging technologies for content creation. You will produce work for film, television, theatre, live concerts, digital platforms, and new media forms, building a portfolio that demonstrates your range as a practitioner. Graduates work as directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, digital content creators, live event filmmakers, and technical directors across film, television, theatre, and online media.
