BA Film Production
About this course
Film production is the discipline concerned with the craft and practice of making films, from the development of a script and the organisation of a shoot to the editing, sound design, and delivery of a finished screen work. It requires both creative vision and practical competence, and it demands the ability to lead teams, manage resources, and make decisions under pressure in production environments that are often demanding and unpredictable. A degree in film production develops all of these capabilities, combining studio craft with critical understanding of the screen industries and the evolving landscape of distribution and audience engagement. At the University of Lincoln, this three-year full-time programme develops filmmakers who can work confidently and creatively across an increasingly diverse and evolving screen landscape. You will establish core production competencies in cinematography, directing, editing, sound, and production management before progressing into areas of specialism that reflect your own creative interests and professional ambitions. The programme is designed to build progressively towards professional industry practice, preparing you to make work to real production standards and to navigate the screen industries as a working practitioner. A sandwich year and work placements are available, giving you the opportunity to gain professional experience in film, television, or related production environments during your studies. Graduates go on to careers as directors, producers, editors, cinematographers, sound designers, and production coordinators across the film and television industries, as well as in commercial production, corporate video, digital content, and interactive media. Many build freelance careers or work for production companies, broadcasters, or post-production facilities, while others move into film education, distribution, or festival programming. Postgraduate study in film production or screen studies is another route, and some graduates go on to significant careers as independent filmmakers.
