Film and television production at Teesside University is a four-year full-time degree that includes a foundation year, preparing you for the technical and creative demands of working in one of the most dynamic sectors of the contemporary creative economy. Film and television are among the most culturally significant and economically substantial art forms of our time, and the skills to make them, combining technical mastery with creative vision and professional discipline, are developed through sustained practice within structured academic and industry contexts. You will explore the fundamental elements of media production, including the making of images, video, and sound, developing practical skills in digital software and technical equipment alongside an understanding of professional working environments. The programme combines hands-on production work with the study of media theory, critical analysis, and audience perspectives, asking you to think carefully about how screen media create meaning and how they function within contemporary culture. The foundation year develops your technical confidence and media literacy, preparing you for the more demanding creative and professional work of the degree years.
