BA Film and Television Production with a Foundation Year
About this course
Film and television production is a discipline that trains you in the craft and practice of making screen content, across the full range of forms and formats that film and television encompass: narrative fiction, documentary, experimental film, drama series, short film, and digital content for different platforms. It develops both the technical skills of production, from cinematography and editing to sound design and production management, and the creative and critical understanding needed to develop original work and situate it within the history and culture of cinema and television. At UEA, the foundation year provides a supported academic and practical entry point into degree-level study for students who may not yet have the required grades, who benefit from additional preparation, or who are still exploring where their creative interests lie. The foundation year offers a structured pathway into the main four-year programme, which develops your production skills across documentary and fiction filmmaking, screenwriting, and post-production. UEA's film school has strong links to the screen industries and provides a creative environment where students develop their practice alongside rigorous academic study. The typical entry tariff is 120 points. Graduates of film and television production programmes work as directors, editors, cinematographers, producers, screenwriters, sound designers, and production managers across film, television, online content, and advertising. Many build careers that span multiple production roles, particularly in the early stages of professional life, and the creative portfolio developed during the degree is an essential professional tool. Some graduates go on to postgraduate study in film, screen production, or screenwriting to develop their expertise in a particular area of practice.
