BA Fashion
About this course
Fashion at degree level is an immersive encounter with one of the most culturally significant and commercially complex of all creative industries. Fashion design asks you to develop a creative identity while also understanding the craft, technology, and commercial realities that shape how clothing is made and sold. It is a discipline that fuses the handmade and the digital, the aesthetic and the analytical, the individual voice and the industrial system. At Ravensbourne University London you will study across three years on a full-time programme, taught by a team of industry professionals who bring current expertise and networks directly into the curriculum. From day one, the course is designed to equip you with a tailored, industry-ready skillset. You will develop skills in garment construction, pattern cutting, textile experimentation, and computer-aided design alongside an understanding of fashion history, cultural theory, and the commercial and ethical dimensions of the industry. Live projects and industry collaborations are embedded in the learning, and Ravensbourne's location in Greenwich, with close connections to London's fashion and creative industries, means that the professional world of fashion is immediately accessible throughout your studies. You will build a portfolio that demonstrates your creative range, technical ability, and professional development, which is the primary currency when entering the industry. Fashion graduates work across a remarkably wide spectrum of the industry. Design roles in fashion houses of all scales, from independent labels to high street brands and luxury couture, are a direct pathway. Technical roles in pattern development, garment technology, and production management draw on the craft and manufacturing knowledge the degree builds. Styling, buying, fashion journalism, visual merchandising, and brand development are further directions for graduates whose interests extend into the commercial and communications dimensions of fashion. Many graduates establish independent practices. Further study at MA level in fashion design, sustainable fashion, or fashion business is available for those who wish to specialise or pursue research.
