BSc Environmental Science with Business Management
About this course
Environmental Science with Business Management is a degree for the moment in which we live. The environmental challenges facing businesses, cities and governments, from reducing emissions and managing resource use to adapting to climate change and responding to biodiversity loss, are no longer peripheral concerns: they are central to how organisations of all kinds need to think and operate. At the same time, environmental action that ignores economic and organisational realities tends not to work. This degree develops both kinds of knowledge simultaneously. At Queen Mary University of London, the four-year full-time programme combines rigorous environmental science training with the management and business knowledge needed to understand and work within organisations. You will study ecology, climate science, environmental chemistry, pollution, sustainability policy and environmental assessment alongside business strategy, finance, marketing, operations and organisational behaviour. The combination is designed to produce graduates who understand what the environmental science tells us and who also know how organisations function, what drives decisions in them, and how environmental considerations can be integrated into business strategy and operations. Queen Mary's London location places you in the city where many of the global financial and business institutions that are now grappling seriously with sustainability are based. The proximity to major employers, NGOs, policy bodies and research organisations enriches both the curriculum and the career opportunities available. Graduates work in corporate sustainability, environmental consultancy, public sector environmental management, green finance, policy research, NGOs and international development organisations. Postgraduate study in environmental management, sustainability, business administration or environmental policy is a natural continuation for those who want to specialise further.
