LLB English/NI Law with Spanish
About this course
Law with Spanish is a combination that acknowledges the increasingly international character of legal practice and the growing importance of Spanish-speaking markets and legal systems in the global economy. An English or Northern Irish law degree provides the qualifying legal education needed to pursue a career in the legal profession, developing the analytical precision, close reading, and structured argumentation that legal study demands. Spanish adds a major linguistic and cultural dimension, opening access to the legal traditions and professional environments of Spain, Latin America, and other Spanish-speaking jurisdictions. At the University of Dundee, this three-year full-time programme provides the foundational legal knowledge required to qualify to practise law in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, covering the core legal subjects required by the relevant regulatory bodies. The Spanish component develops your linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding, including engagement with legal traditions and commercial contexts in Spanish-speaking countries. The degree includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a Spanish-speaking academic or legal environment and to deepen both your linguistic competence and your understanding of law in a different cultural context. The typical entry tariff of 200 points reflects the demands of a rigorous combined programme. You will develop precise legal reasoning, analytical writing, Spanish language proficiency, and a cross-jurisdictional perspective on law that is increasingly valuable in an interconnected world. Graduates can proceed to legal practice training towards qualification as solicitors or barristers, or pursue careers in international law, compliance, diplomacy, business, and any role benefiting from the combination of legal knowledge and Spanish language skills. Postgraduate study in law, international law, or Spanish is a natural continuation.
