BA English Literature with Creative Writing with a Year Abroad
About this course
English Literature with Creative Writing is a degree built on the conviction that reading and writing are deeply connected practices: close attention to how skilled writers achieve their effects sharpens your own creative instincts, and the discipline of creating your own work transforms the way you read. The combination develops both the critical intelligence to analyse texts and the creative confidence to produce them, whether that means fiction, poetry, non-fiction, drama or hybrid forms that cross those boundaries. At the University of East Anglia this four-year full-time degree includes a year abroad built into the programme, giving you the opportunity to study and write in an international context. UEA has one of the strongest and most long-established creative writing programmes in the UK, with a distinctive tradition that takes both reading and writing seriously as academic and creative pursuits. You will study literature across a wide range of periods and traditions while also developing your own creative voice through workshop-based creative writing modules, each deepening your engagement with the other. Graduates from English Literature with Creative Writing degrees go on to careers in publishing, journalism, communications, education, broadcasting, the arts and the creative industries. Many find roles where writing is central, whether as novelists, poets, journalists, copywriters, editors or content strategists. Others use the analytical and communication skills the degree develops to succeed in careers in business, the civil service, marketing, advertising and public relations. The degree also provides excellent preparation for postgraduate study in English, creative writing, journalism, publishing or education.
