Electrical and electronic engineering is the discipline that underlies the technological infrastructure of modern life. From power generation and distribution to telecommunications, robotics, medical devices, electric vehicles, and smart cities, electrical and electronic engineers design the systems that make contemporary civilisation possible. The field encompasses both the large-scale engineering of electrical power systems and the miniaturised precision of microelectronics, signal processing, and embedded computing, requiring graduates who are comfortable working across this range. At Glasgow Caledonian University, you will study electrical and electronic engineering over four years full-time, developing a thorough grounding in the core areas of the discipline: circuit theory, electromagnetics, power engineering, digital systems, control, communications, and embedded systems. You will develop strong practical skills alongside the mathematical and theoretical understanding that engineering demands, working in well-equipped laboratories and on design projects that connect your learning to real engineering challenges. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to spend a year working in the industry before your final year, and a year abroad, both of which deepen your professional and personal development considerably.
