BA Education with Sustainability
About this course
Education with sustainability brings together two urgent and interconnected areas of concern. Education is both the object of study and the primary means through which the next generation will be equipped to understand and respond to the challenges of the twenty-first century. Sustainability, in its environmental, social, and economic dimensions, is perhaps the most significant of those challenges, requiring transformations in how we produce, consume, and relate to the natural systems on which all life depends. Studying education with a focus on sustainability means asking how learning can be organised and delivered to equip people to think and act differently about the world they inhabit. At Anglia Ruskin University, this three-year, full-time programme develops your understanding of education, its purposes, its structures, and its practices, alongside a sustained engagement with sustainability as both a subject and a lens through which to view educational questions. You will explore how learning and teaching are theorised and practised in different contexts, how educational systems are organised and governed, and how education can contribute to a more just and sustainable world. You will develop skills in reflective professional practice, critical analysis, and evidence-based reasoning, and you will engage with sustainability at the level of policy, community, and individual practice. Graduates go on to careers in education settings from primary through to further and higher education, in environmental and sustainability education, in community development, in charity and third sector work, in sustainability consulting, and in a range of public sector roles where education and sustainability intersect. The degree is also a strong foundation for further study or training in teaching, educational leadership, environmental management, or community development. It is particularly well suited to students who are motivated by the idea of contributing to positive social and environmental change through education.
