BA Education and Sport & Physical Education
About this course
Education and sport and physical education is a combination that draws together two fields with a shared commitment to understanding and promoting human development. Education as a discipline examines how learning happens, what shapes it, and how schools and educational systems reflect and reproduce the social, cultural, and political priorities of the societies they serve. Sport and physical education focuses on the role of physical activity and sport in human development, wellbeing, and learning, asking how physical education can be taught effectively and how sport contributes to personal and social outcomes. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year, full-time degree encourages you to explore the personal, social, cultural, and political forces that shape learning, both in the UK and internationally. You will gain a broad perspective on educational theory and policy alongside a grounding in the principles of physical education, sport science, and coaching that inform effective PE teaching and sports development work. The programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional experience across educational and sporting contexts alongside your academic studies. Graduates from this combination pursue careers in physical education teaching in schools, working through postgraduate initial teacher training following graduation, or in sports coaching, development, and administration. Youth work, sports leadership, community sport, health promotion, and after-school provision are also career pathways. The education component opens additional roles in educational support, learning mentoring, and community education. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in education, physical education, sport science, or coaching, deepening their expertise and qualifying for teaching roles.
