BSc(Econ) Economics
About this course
Economics provides a set of analytical tools and frameworks for understanding some of the most important forces shaping our world, from the behaviour of individual consumers and firms to the dynamics of international trade, financial markets and government policy. It is a discipline grounded in both theory and evidence, asking you to build rigorous models of how economies work and then test them against data and real-world outcomes. At Royal Holloway, University of London, the three-year full-time Economics degree combines that theoretical grounding with a strong emphasis on practical analytical skills and international perspective. You will study the core principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, developing the mathematical and statistical tools needed to model and analyse economic behaviour. As the programme progresses, you will engage with more specialised areas, examining international economics, labour markets, public economics, financial markets and the economics of policy. Royal Holloway's proximity to London gives the programme a natural connection to the financial and policy institutions that shape the UK and global economy. A sandwich year is available, giving you the opportunity to work in a relevant organisation, and a year abroad widens your international perspective further. Work placement is also built into the programme, supporting your transition into professional life. Graduates of economics programmes are among the most employable in any discipline. The combination of quantitative rigour, analytical judgment and economic literacy is sought after in financial services, economic consultancy, government and the civil service, international organisations, technology companies, and market research. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in economics, finance, public policy or data science, and some pursue research degrees or academic careers.
