BSc Economics and Management with a Year in Business
About this course
Economics and management is a combination that unites two disciplines with deep natural complementarities. Economics provides the theoretical and analytical frameworks for understanding how markets work, how resources are allocated, how organisations interact with their competitive and regulatory environments, and what the macro-level consequences of policy choices are. Management brings the organisational and strategic dimensions, examining how firms are led, how strategies are formed, how decisions are made under uncertainty, and how the functions of marketing, finance, operations, and human resources work together to create and sustain value. At Royal Holloway this four-year full-time programme is delivered jointly by the economics department and the business school, drawing on the expertise of both internationally active research communities. You will study the core content of both an economics degree and a management degree, developing economic rigour and quantitative analytical skill alongside practical business knowledge and the interpersonal and leadership capabilities that management careers require. A year in business is embedded in the programme, providing professional experience in a real organisation before you complete your degree, and a year abroad is also available. The dual focus produces graduates who are both analytically rigorous and commercially aware, qualities that employers across finance, consultancy, industry, and the public sector consistently value. Graduates move into careers in economic analysis, financial services, management consulting, corporate strategy, marketing, operations, public policy, and entrepreneurship. The combination is particularly well suited to roles that require both quantitative analytical depth and practical business judgment. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in economics, management, or MBA programmes at leading business schools.
