About this course

Economics and management is a combination that reflects how the most important decisions facing organisations, whether private firms, public bodies, or nonprofits, are ultimately economic in character. Economics provides the analytical frameworks to understand markets, incentives, costs and benefits, and the conditions under which competitive and cooperative outcomes emerge. Management translates those insights into action, examining how organisations are structured, how people and resources are led, and how strategy is developed and implemented. At Bristol you will build a thorough grounding in both disciplines, with mandatory content in the first year and into the second ensuring you develop genuine depth in each before you have the freedom to explore what interests you most. Economics study covers micro and macroeconomic theory, quantitative methods, and applied topics that engage with real policy and business questions. Management study covers organisational behaviour, strategy, operations, marketing, and the human dimensions of running an organisation. The combination means you can bring economic rigour to management questions and a grounding in management practice to economic analysis. The three-year full-time programme gives you the time to develop both sides of the degree to a standard that employers value. Graduates go on to careers in management consulting, finance, the civil service, marketing, operations, and general management across a wide range of sectors. The combination of economic analytical skill and management knowledge is consistently sought after by graduate employers who need people who can both analyse problems rigorously and work effectively within organisations. Postgraduate study in economics, business, an MBA, or a specialist management discipline is also a well-established route.
