Economics and geography together provide one of the most practically powerful combinations in the social sciences. Economics gives you the theoretical and quantitative tools to analyse how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions under conditions of scarcity, while geography helps you understand how those decisions play out across real places, from urban neighbourhoods to global commodity chains. Brought together, the two disciplines equip you to think about the spatial and institutional dimensions of economic life, and to engage seriously with the challenges of sustainability, development, and inequality. This three-year full-time degree at the University of Leeds develops fluency in both disciplines, with core training in economic theory, quantitative methods, spatial analysis, and human geography. You will engage with questions about how regional economies grow and diverge, how trade and migration reshape places, and how environmental pressures interact with economic systems. The programme is designed with your future career in mind from the outset: a sandwich year gives you the opportunity to undertake a substantial professional placement, a year abroad broadens your global perspective, and work placement opportunities are available, all of which help you build the experience and networks that employers value.
