BSc Economics and Econometrics with Study Abroad
About this course
Economics and econometrics together represent the intellectual core of modern quantitative economics. Economics analyses how individuals, firms, governments, and markets make decisions and allocate resources, building models that seek to explain and predict behaviour across everything from household spending to global trade. Econometrics provides the statistical methods needed to test those models against real-world data, turning economic theory into empirical science and making it possible to evaluate policy, measure inequality, and forecast economic conditions. This four-year, full-time programme at the University of Bristol develops both analytical and quantitative skills to a high level, giving you a thorough grounding in economic theory and the statistical and mathematical methods used to investigate it empirically. The additional year is spent studying at an overseas university, which gives you the opportunity to encounter different academic traditions in economics and to engage with questions that may be approached differently in other countries and institutions. The programme is particularly suited to students who are drawn to the rigorous, quantitative side of the discipline and who want to work at the frontier where theory meets data. Graduates of economics and econometrics programmes are highly sought after in financial services, economic consultancy, central banking, government economic services, and international organisations. The ability to build and test economic models with real data is a scarce and valued skill, and graduates regularly move into roles in investment banking, data analytics, regulatory economics, and academic research. The international experience of the year abroad also adds depth and professional versatility. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in economics, finance, or public policy, and the programme provides excellent preparation for doctoral research.
