BSc Economics and Business
About this course
Economics and business is a combination that bridges the rigorous analytical framework of economics and the practical orientation of management education. Economics provides the tools to understand how markets work, how firms and individuals make decisions under uncertainty, and how policy interventions affect welfare and efficiency. Business management complements this with direct engagement with strategy, organisational dynamics, and the practice of managing people and resources in commercial contexts. Together they equip you to approach business strategy and organisational practice from a broad, evidence-based perspective. At Swansea University, this three-year programme provides a strong foundation in key economic theories and quantitative analytical tools alongside a portfolio of courses in modern management practice. You will study microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics alongside topics in marketing, operations, finance, and strategic management, developing both the rigour to analyse economic questions carefully and the practical knowledge to apply your understanding within organisations. The programme is designed for students who want to apply quantitative tools to understand the implications of business and economic decisions for the economy, the environment, and society, reflecting a broader conception of business responsibility than purely financial returns. Graduates from economics and business programmes are well placed for careers in management, financial services, economic consultancy, public sector management, market analysis, business strategy, and a range of analytical and advisory roles. The quantitative and analytical skills developed through the economics component are particularly valued in competitive graduate recruitment. Many graduates pursue further study in economics, finance, business, or an MBA, while others move directly into careers across banking, consultancy, logistics, technology, and the public sector.
